About

A family firm, since 1987.

Mortise & Sons started with one van and a lot of sash windows. Thirty-odd years later we are fourteen people, a workshop and a yard in Lewes, and we still do most of our work within twenty miles of it.

N° 01 — How we work

Repair before replace.

We believe old houses are worth looking after properly. That means lime instead of cement on solid walls, repairing sash windows instead of ripping them out, and matching brick and flint so the patch is hard to find.

It also means being straight with people. Our quotes list every line, our programmes say what happens each week, and if we find a problem behind a wall we show you before we fix it.

Most of our work comes from people who have used us before, or from their neighbours. We’d like to keep it that way.
